Advent 2016 – Savior
Dear Real Life Community,
We kicked off the season of Advent this past Sunday at Real Life Community…and it was a special celebration! We, once again, are joining in with other churches in a movement called “Advent Conspiracy” to tell and celebrate the story of Christmas in a way that still changes the world. So, we’re going to “Spend Less, Give More, Worship Fully and Love All.”
Our Advent/Christmas projects for this year are:
Our annual Angel Tree Christmas party on December 17th from 9:30-11. All the Angels we had were taken Sunday! Wow!
A project headed by Mike Williams, who is currently serving in Ghana, to buy 4 cows for $500/each to help provide income and a source for planting the fields for Nazarene pastors in the region.
Over the next few weeks at Real Life, we’ll be doing all the things that make the season special in preparing to celebrate the coming of Christ – both his birth…and his anticipated return. We’ll light advent candles, enjoy the decorations, throw parties, go Caroling at the Healthcare facility down the street (Sunday night, the 18th!), and even, this year, gather together on Christmas morning at 10am (Sunday) for worship!
The message series we’ll be working through is going to focus on the different ways that Jesus is a Savior. When Mary is told to give this baby she was bearing the name “Jesus” it is because he was the one who would “save his people from their sins.” The name Jesus comes from the Hebrew “Joshua” which means “Jehovah is salvation.” As we read through the Advent scriptures, we find that Jesus is the Savior, not in some narrow, spiritual only, sense…but in the totality of our lives. So, we’re going to spend some time on that together.
We hope to see you this Sunday at 9:30 or 11am!
Blessings,
Erik
