Message Series – Kingdom Come
This time of year in America we can tend to get very fixated on the power structures and kings of this world. It seems like everywhere we turn there is some sort of electric conversation going on about who will be or ought to be the next leader of the United States…
…as if the whole of creation depends on this.
Now, I don’t mean to discount the importance of elections and the influence and power of the people we elect. But as the church, it becomes very easy to get confused about what kingdom calls for our ultimate allegiance – over and at times even against the kingdoms of this world.
Jesus taught his disciples a simple prayer that we do well to remember today. It begins like this:
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.”
See, as Christians, we believe that our ultimate allegiance lies with the kingdom of God. While we live here, our citizenship is there. And our prayer is that the rule and reign of God would come here as it is in heaven.
Over the next few weeks, regardless of who is elected President of the US, we’re going to remember what it means to be citizens of heaven under the reign of Christ. If you’re looking for some clarity and peace after a turbulent season in our country, these next three weeks are for you.
See you Sundays at 9:30 or 11am.
Blessings,
Erik
